MELBA LOUISE DARRACOTT (BUCHANAN) 1919 2006 On Saturday December 30, 2006 at Seven Oaks Hospital in Winnipeg, Melba Louise Darracott passed away. Melba was beloved wife of 64 years to James William Darracott; beloved mother of Paul Darracott, Susan Card and husband Ernie Card (Toronto); grandmother to Dallas Barrett Card, Cheryl Lynch and her husband Michael (Toronto); aunt to Allan and Sharon Pope (Vancouver), Bruce and Joan Pope (Toronto), John and Diane Darracott (Winnipeg), Debbie Darracott (Oakville); sister-in-law to Laurine Darracott; great-aunt to Ashley, Tobin, and Shane Pope and wife Jody (Vancouver), Lindsay and Craig Pope (Toronto), Sarah Pope and husband Cory (Chicago), Colleen and Laura Fawley (Mississauga). Melba also leaves behind long time friends Ella Card, Mary Tibbs, the extended Card family, and many good friends at Lindenwood Manor. Melba was predeceased by her parents James and Mary Buchanan, and dear sisters Irene Pope (Toronto) and Beth Buchanan (Montreal). Born in Winnipeg on July 22, 1919, Melba worked during the war years for the British and American armies, and later for Appraisal Institute of Canada. Melba was an exceptional golfer and long time member of Pine Ridge Golf Club. She served as President of the Manitoba Branch of the C.L.G.A. (1969, 1970). She won the Tribune Trophy Golf Tournament (1966), five up with four holes to play at Southwood Golf Club. Melba showed great courage, humour and thirst for knowledge throughout her life and became a budding artist at 85 years. A private family service was held Thursday, January 4, 2007. The family thanks Dr. Jaime Boyd, the staff of Lindenwood Manor and Rev. Dr. Sharon Wilson for their care. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or a charity of one's choice.
