  • I was one of the lucky ones to have Mr. Stewart for grade 6 at Clandeboye school. We were broken-hearted when he announced that he was going to Whitehorse. REST easy Mr. Stewart. You are not forgotten - Posted by: Cathy Clarke (Student) on: Jul 04, 2021

  • I've remembered for most of my life, and for the life of me, I don't know why. He said something in class one day that struck me as off about Mr. Stewart. There were many times that Mr. Stewart would say things in class that would send a mighty big question mark down your spine as to why on earth did he just say that? The lion story about a lion right now walking into the classroom and all the boys would get....blah blah blah...well that just being just one of many weird instances where the students would go huh? However, the one that stands out the most was that he said "The world is shifting and the poles are going to switch. One day it will be so warm in the Yukon, that palm trees in your back yard. I though LOL Pffft!.... like that will never happen. LOL So here we are some 40 years later and it's starting to happen. Winters are nowhere near what they were back in the 70s, but who know what will shake out in 100 or more years...maybe you will have palm trees in Whitehorse. That being said. RIP Mr. Stewart. I guess you were kind of a visionary. Don Howie - Posted by: Don Howie (Male student at Takhini Elementary grade 6) on: Feb 09, 2017

  • Mr. Stewart was my teacher at Takhini Elementry in Whitehorse. We rode the bus together many mornings and after school. He became so special in those years for me. I was never allowed to put my name (Lisa) on my papers I had to put the nickname he so loving gave to me ~ Brattinella ~ I felt very porud of that name! Music classes were the best!!! Silver threads & Golden Needles, One Tin Solider were my favorites! He could play the piano so well and we sang our hearts out. One time he was sick and wasn't at school so we baked him cookies and brought them to him. I will always remember my favorite teacher Mr. Stewart, Such great memories that make me smile every time! Thank you my friend I am blessed to have met you! - Posted by: Brattinella ~ Lisa Grenier(Wood) (Student/Friend) on: Dec 23, 2016

  • I was a student of Mr. Stewart in Takhini Elementary in Whitehorse. I was one of the lucky students, and was assigned to his class for both grade 4 and for grade 6. It's impossible to put into words the impact this man had upon my life. He was first and foremost a wonderful teacher. Second, a mentor and third - a remarkable example and role model. To say he was strict would be an understatement, but if you behaved and paid attention, he would bend over backwards for you, as his student. I only wish I'd tracked him down while he was living to pass on my thoughts, as I've thought of him many times over the years. Thanks again, Mr. Stewart. You were a cornerstone of my upbringing. - Posted by: Colin Clark (Past student) on: Jul 12, 2015
