Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryVERNA MILROY (nee JACKSON) Peacefully at the Selkirk and District Hospital, after a courageous battle with cancer, Verna Milroy passed away on January 5, 2007 at the age of 91 years. Verna was born in the Town of Mowbray. She received her education in the Mowbray School. In 1933 the Jackson family moved from Mowbray to the town of East Bay in the St. Rose area. Verna spent a few years in East Bay then went to work in Ottawa. During the war she returned to Winnipeg and she joined the Army (CWAC). Verna served in the Army for the duration of the war and upon demobilization Verna worked in Winnipeg where she met and married Alex Milroy. They started living on Langside Street but soon purchased an apartment block on Beverley St. followed by buying property on Northumberland Avenue in West. St. Paul. It was here that she got what she really wanted; a huge garden and numerous fruit trees. Verna was an avid gardener and grew an enormous amount of vegetables which she generously donated to Winnipeg Harvest. Sometimes they would have to make three trips in their panel truck. When Alex passed away in 1993, Verna was still able to keep her garden and fruit trees with the help of George and Mary, Ike, Orval and a few more friends. Verna was very grateful to these people. In 1999, Verna married Bill Jorhein, moving to St. Andrews where she was living at the time of her death. Verna was hardworking, honest and of good moral values. These virtues are still the best for a successful life. Verna enjoyed Big-Game hunting and was an excellent cook and all-around handy-person. Verna was predeceased by her first husband Alex in 1993; parents Sadie and Gilbert Jackson of East Bay; brother, Earl of East Bay; sister, Margaret Mackay, Mrs. Leckie of Calgary, Phyllis Hudson of St. Rose; brothers-in-law Elmer MacMillan, Clarence Mackay, Les Leckie and Bert Hudson. Left to mourn her passing are her husband Bill Jorheim; three sisters, Ila MacMillan of St. Rose, Merle and her husband Frank Ogden of Aurora, ON, Doreen and her husband Harry Stasiuk of Innisfield, ON; three step-daughters Debby Rekdal and her children Shaunesy, Terry, Jennifer and grandson, Alex of Winnipeg; Dianne and her husband Ken Pietracci and their children, Kevin and Andrea, Karen and her husband Tim Sinnock and their children Michael and Amanda of St. Andrews; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at Our Saviour's Lutheran Church, 600 Minto Street on Tuesday, January 9, 2007 at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Michael Kurtz officiating. The service will terminate at the church with burial next to her first husband, Alex in the Jackson Cemetery, Pembina Valley (near the former town of Mowbray). Pallbearers will be Delbert and Orval Hudson, Gordon MacMillan, John Preston, George Heindle, Jamie Stasiuk. Flowers are gratefully declined however those wishing to make a contribution, in Verna's memory, to Our Saviour's Lutheran Church or to a charity of choice may do so. The family would like to express their sincere appreciation to Dr. M. Speer, Dr. T. Racette, the nurses and staff of the Selkirk Hospital for the wonderful care they took of Verna during her hospital stay. Thanks also to the Selkirk and District HomeCare and the nurses and workers for the kind and loving care they took of Verna at home. Thank you all and God-Bless. There is a gate at the end of the road Where each must go alone Beyond the gate the Father claims his own Beyond the gate Verna has found happiness and rest And there is comforting in the thought That a loving God knows best. Till we meet again, sleep in peace Verna. Your rest is won. BARDAL FUNERAL HOME 843 Sherbrook Street 774-7474 Condolences: www.bardal.ca
