Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryALISTAIR MATTHEWS Peacefully, on January 6, 2007, at Seven Oaks Hospital, Alistair Matthews went to eternal rest at 80 years of age. Left to mourn his passing are his sister Rosemary, loyal friends Cecile and Lome Larter, Robert and Martha Hoehn, Jane Kesselman and schoolmate Willard Schneider. He was predeceased by his wife Dorothy, his parents Elizabeth and Gordon Matthews, a brother Philip who died tragically while in the Air Force. Al, the youngest of three children, was born in Langruth on October 29, 1926. It was in this small town that he attended school and spent his earlier years. He later relocated to Winnipeg thereby beginning a long career as a truck driver. In 1965, he married Dorothy Etterman, a union which lasted 23 years. Al loved the outdoors and everything that was connected to it. Whenever he had a chance, he would garden or fish. He loved animals, feeding birds or tending to injured ones. His dog, Sam, was a source of companionship and joy when he spent his later years alone. Al will be remembered for his stories. Many a time, he entertained us with the humorous events that happened throughout those trucking days. We will miss his friendship and his memory will linger in the hearts of family and friends. A special thanks and appreciation to the staff at Riverview, Jocelyn House and Seven Oaks Hospital for their compassionate care. A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, January 10, 2007 at 10:00 a.m. at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Ave. Arrangements entrusted to: Chapel Lawn Funeral Home And Reception Centre 885-9715
