WILBERT SPENCE September 18, 1921 - January 5, 2007 It is with deep sadness and sorrow that we announce the passing of our father, grandfather, bother, and uncle, Wilbert Spence, aged 85 years of Peguis, MB on January 5, 2007. Wilbert was born on the Peguis Reserve, where he lived until he went to Brandon Residential School. He started work in the bush camps and later worked for Domtar (Winnipeg) until he retired. He moved back to Peguis and enjoyed his retirement. Wilbert entered the Peguis Senior Centre on July 4, 2000. When Wilbert was healthy he enjoyed driving his car, visiting his family and friends throughout the Interlake. He liked to tease and all who knew him enjoyed his humorous nature. Wilbert will be lovingly remembered by his children, Judy (Greg) McCorrister and Billy Thompson (Virginia) and grandchildren, Ryan (Claudette), Grant, Nicole (Will), Robert (Dolly), Frances (Clayton) and Craige; great-grandchildren, Chante, Matthew, Jersey, Lida, Katrina, Amber, Kathleen, Crystal and Cassius. Wilbert will be sadly missed by his brothers, Arnold, Fred (Lillian) and Vernon Spence of Peguis. Wilbert was predeceased by his wife Ruth (Thompson); his mother Mary; his father Joseph; his brothers, Stanley, Walter, Lawrence, Lloyd, Felix; his sisters, Mary, Agnes, Violet, Garda and Greta. A prayer service for family and elders will be held at the Peguis Senior Home on Wednesday, January 10, 2007 from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Wake service will be held at the St. Matthew's Anglican Church from 8:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m. Funeral Service will be held on Thursday, January 11, 2007 at 2:00 p.m in the church with Rev. Wesley Barrett and Barry Bear officiating. Viewing from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. Interment will follow at St. Matthew's Anglican Cemetery. Following the funeral a lunch will be served at the Peguis Community Hall. Active Pallbearers will be Billy Spence, Lorne Spence, Ernest Spence, Cyril Spence Sr., Tony Spence and Raymond Sinclair. Honorary Pallbearers will be John Pudlo, Harold Cochrane Sr., Melvin Manningway, Robert Cochrance, Allan Spence, Russell Bear, Richard Spence and Walter McCorrister. We, the family, are here today to give thanks and honour the life of Wilbert for all of our special times we've shared. Wilbert was a very special, caring person who touched many people's hearts. His family and close friends will greatly miss him. Wilbert was the pillar and centre of our family, which kept us all together. He was always there to help, support and encourage each and every one of us. The family would like to extend a very special thank you to Peguis Senior Home staff and residents, P.E.M.H. staff, Fisher Ambulance and Peguis Chief and Council.
