ELAINE SIMCOE (nee THOMSON) Peacefully, at home, Elaine Simcoe (nee Thomson) passed away on December 29, 2006, after a long and courageous battle with cancer. Born in 1946, Elaine grew up in Winnipeg. After graduating from the University of Manitoba, she left for Montreal to work in the advertising industry. There she met her soulmate, Morty. They were married and had two sons, her pride and joy. Later, the family moved back to Winnipeg where Elaine became advertising copy chief for The Bay Northern Stores throughout Canada. Elaine had a passionate spirit. She did nothing by half measures, but gave each project her all and followed it through to the end. She was passionate about food, health and the well-being of her family and friends. Many of us were presented with a bountiful package of delicious treats and first aid articles for an impending car trip. Friends and family were often the recipients of a pizza-size cookie, a token of affection, congratulations or gratitude. Elaine's warm and generous heart led her to become the primary caregiver and advocate for her aging mother and elderly relatives whose children lived out of town. She also mentored and supported many who suffered from her disease. Her strong and loving nature was evident in the many lifelong bonds she developed. She leaves to mourn her passing, her beloved husband Morty; treasured sons, Jeremy (Leslee) and Benjamin; her sister and best friend, Judy (Bob); brother-in-law Barry (Marilyn), nieces and nephews, Charles and Leah, David and Andrea and loving friend Faigie Greaves. Funeral services were held at Shaarey Zedek Synagogue on January 2, 2007. Donations may be made to CancerCare Manitoba in Elaine's memory.
