ALMA MARJORY CONWAY November 23, 1914 January 6, 2007 Alma died gently and peacefully at the Riverview Health Centre on Saturday, January 6, 2007. She was born in Neepawa, was married, and widowed there prior to moving to Winnipeg, where she became a hairdresser, working in Eaton's Hair Salon for many years. She met and married Charles Conway in 1950. Alma leaves to mourn her passing sisters, Gladys Bate and Hazel Leishman in St. Thomas and Barrie, Ontario respectively; her nephew and niece, Clive and Ollie Bate of Winnipeg and their two children; niece and nephew, Alana and Derek Brown and their three children in Toronto. She was predeceased by her husband Charlie and her mother Mary. Alma loved her home, and she did everything imaginable to turn the house she and Charlie owned on Bartlett Avenue in Fort Rouge into a model of pristine cleanliness and order, with state-of-the-art furnishings and appliances. She was a great cook, too, and her husband, relatives and friends thrived on her delicious meals. Alma, with Charlie acting as business manager, opened her own hair-dressing salon on Osborne Street, where she served countless happy customers over the years. One of the great joys that Alma and Charlie shared over many years was their summer home at Pye's Landing on Clearwater Bay on Lake of the Woods. They loved fishing for walleye together, with Alma usually catching the most. Then she would fillet the fish expertly, and share them with the whole campground! In their declining years, Alma and Charlie lived in a couple of locations before their failing health resulted in Charlie going to The Convalescent Home, and Alma to Riverview. On Alma's behalf, special appreciation and gratitude is extended to a long-time neighbour and friend, Anna Kidd, who was always there for Alma during the whole of the nine years she was in Riverview. Everyone should have such a friend! A service of remembrance will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, January 11, 2007 at Bardal Funeral Home, 843 Sherbrook Street. Gratitude and thanks is also to be conveyed to the staff at Riverview Health Centre for the competent and consistent care they provided to Alma. In lieu of flowers, a memorial contribution to the Salvation Army would be appreciated. BARDAL FUNERAL HOME 843 Sherbrook Street 774-7474 Condolences: www.bardal.ca
