MARGARET MCDOUGALL HOWARTH (nee RAE) 1915 - 2007 Margaret (Rae) Howarth was born in Glasgow, Scotland, on September 3, 1915. She passed away at the Lions Personal Care Centre, Sherbrook Street, on January 4, 2007. After the early death of her mother, Margaret travelled to Detroit, Michigan, to join her father, Robert Rae, and later to Winnipeg where she joined the family of her aunt, Mary Norrie, her uncle, William Norrie, and cousins, Margaret and Bill. Margaret attended Daniel McIntyre Collegiate, and then obtained a position at the T. Eaton Company where she worked in the fifth floor children's hosiery for over 25 years. She remained a member of the Eaton Retirement Club until her death. In 1967 Margaret married Eric Howarth, a long-time resident of St. Vital, and moved to his family home on Kingswood Avenue. While living in St.Vital, Margaret was for many years an enthusiastic member of the Sweet Adelines chorus. Eric and Margaret enjoyed golfing, fishing, and many trips together. She was predeceased by her husband in 2000. Margaret is survived by her cousins, Margaret and Bill Norrie of Winnipeg, as well as by Dr. Fraser Norrie of Vancouver, Sheila Norrie and family of Winnipeg, and by Howarth nieces and nephews in Prince Albert, SK, Bellingham, WA, and Vancouver, BC. Thanks to the staff of Lion's Supportive Housing- 6th floor and to Lions Personal Care Centre- 4th floor, who were always patient, kind and considerate. A service of remembrance will be held in St. Mary's Road United Church, 613 St. Mary's Road, St.Vital on Saturday, January 20 at 1:30 p.m. with Rev. Susan Tough officiating. In lieu of flowers, friends are invited to make a donation to St. Boniface Hospital Research Foundation, D1003-409 Tache Avenue, Winnipeg, MB R2H 2A6, or to UNICEF Prairie Region, 323-112 Market Ave, Winnipeg MB R3B 0P4.
