JOSEPH WILFRED (WILF) MARTIN
Date of Passing: Jan 11, 2007
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryJOSEPH WILFRED (WILF) MARTIN It is with great sadness we announce the passing of our beloved father and grandfather, Wilf Martin, on January 11, 2007. Wilf was predeceased by his wife Anne in June 2005; his brother Edward; and sisters, Alma Chapman, Rita Lys and Lillian Rasmussen. He leaves to mourn and cherish his memory, daughters, Cathy (Dave), Kim and two granddaughters, Melissa and Kaitlyn; brothers, Dave (Mary), Paul (Gail) and a sister Theresa; as well as many extended family members. Dad's whole working career was with the CN at the Transcona Shops. He began his career as a teenager, working as a Call Boy running errands for the shop. Later, he was in Saskatoon, and then back to the shops as a welder and carman. He later took a teaching position for the new employees in class and on the floor, showing them the ropes. The CN was always a good place for my dad, right until he retired. We remember summer camping trips from here to British Columbia and everywhere in between. We started in a homemade camper, then got a Starcraft. The only thing my dad ever complained about was my mom packing everything including the kitchen sink. I remember my dad saying that he wasn't crazy about pets and that this was the last pet, but pets were always in our home. We started with a Chihuahua and ended with a husky cross (who my dad would cook eggs for) and with a few cats in the mix it was quite the house. He loved animals but just didn't want to admit it. I would like to thank Uncle David and Uncle Paul for being there for hospital trips and doctors appointments, when I could not. This meant a lot to both my dad and me. I would also like to thank Mrs. Skolny for her visits across the lane to my dads. Funeral Mass will be held on Tuesday, January 16, at 10:30 a.m., with viewing held prior, at the Blessed Sacrament Parish, 710 Roanoke Street with Father Owen Steeves officiating. Interment to follow at Transcona Cemetery. Transcona Funeral Chapel in care of arrangements.
