DAVID MATTHEW CRAIG November 1, 1925 January 12, 2007 After a lengthy illness David Craig passed away peacefully on January 12, 2007. He will be sadly missed by his wife of 58 years, Irene, his four children Brad (Joanna), Lori Fenn (John), Janis Harms (Harry) and Scott (Bernice) and his nine grandchildren Michael, Melissa, David, Lindsay, Devan, Jordan, Lisa, Matthew and Mary. Also mourning his passing are five half brothers and sisters living in Chicago and Vancouver Island. David was born and raised on Martin Ave. in Winnipeg. During the Second World War he attained the rank of Pilot Officer in the RCAF. Upon discharge he rejoined the Kildonan Canoe Club where he was an active tennis player, paddler, and ping pong player. This is also where he met and married Irene. They moved to Brandon where he worked for J. A. Keddy Ltd. in the automotive wholesale parts business as credit manager and assistant to the general manager. While in Brandon he organized the Brandon Boys Baseball Association. In 1960 he moved back to Winnipeg with Acklands Ltd. and retired in 1991 as vice-president of credit spending the winters in Palm Springs and summers at their cabin at Twin Lakes Beach where he was president of the beach association for 10 years and on the executive committee for another ten. During his life David was an accomplished artist and sculptor but it wasn't until his retirement that he could find the time for his many hobbies. It was sculpture in stone that he found the most challenging and rewarding. David was a jury winner in the Manitoba Crafts Council Spring Exhibition and had his work on display in the Birchwood Art Gallery. David was the ultimate family man and lived life to the fullest. The Craig home was the focal point for many family functions while the cabin was a favourite gathering spot for friends and family, especially at 5:00 p.m. - cocktail time. David was loved and respected by everyone who had the pleasure of his company and he leaves a void that will be impossible to fill. A memorial service is planned for Tuesday, January 16 at 1:00 p.m. at Thomson Funeral Home with a reception to follow. Cremation has taken place and a private family internment will follow at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Cancercare Manitoba. Thomson Funeral Home 669 Broadway 783-7211
