Date of Passing: Jan 13, 2007
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryWINNIFRED ALICE HEAD (nee BARLOW) Winnifred Alice Head (nee Barlow) passed away Saturday, January 13, 2007. Wynne had not recovered from the loss of Maurice, her beloved husband and friend of 67 years who died nine months ago. We mourn the loss of our Mom and Granz, whom we remember as a vibrant and loving woman, full of spunk and laughter. Her daughters, Nancy Alliston (George), Elaine Head (Bruce Logan) and Rosemary Robertson (Jim), will cherish her lessons in perseverance, dedication to family and the joy in cooking together. Her grandchildren and their partners, Andrea (Marty), Janeen (Lauch), Eliza (Pete), Jamey (Michelle), Arleigh (Jeff), Mirelle (Kyle) were the focus of their Granz's life. She was always enthusiastic about their accomplishments and adventures, supporting their educational pursuits. New and first great-grandchild, Taj McKenzie seems to have inherited his Great-Grandmother's big grin. Wynne was born in Winnipeg in 1917. She grew up with two older brothers, George and Stan, becoming a feisty and athletic young woman. Her best friend was Elsie Armstrong, whose daughter Heather Horton will miss her Auntie Winnie. Wynne met the love of her life, Maurice, while singing in the church choir. Wynne and Maurice raised their family in Winnipeg. Mom loved music and the ballet, volunteered in several organizations and did exquisite stitchery. The family summered in Kenora at our beloved cottage Headacher, on Coney Island. Camp was, and is, the heart place for us all; the gathering place for countless celebrations. There was always room for another at Mom's table. Mom and Dad retired on Vancouver Island, where she enjoyed hooking rugs, arranging flowers and playing crib with friends. She and Maurice travelled extensively, exploring their British roots, but always returning to Headacher for long summers. During her latter years, Mom was lovingly cared for by the Robertson family and at Pinecrest Home in Kenora. There will be a private memorial service and celebration of Mom's life. Remembrances can be made to the Lake of the Woods District Hospital Foundation or the Anglican Church Appeal. BROWN FUNERAL HOME CREMATION CENTRE ENTRUSTED WITH ARRANGEMENTS
