Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryANNIE (NAN) STEVENSON Annie (Nan) Stevenson, of Heritage House in Winnipeg, passed away peacefully on January 14, 2007, at the Health Sciences Centre. Nan was born on April 20, 1919, in Dundee, Scotland, to parents Anne and William Farquhar. The family moved to Winnipeg in 1928, and three years later Nan's younger brother Bill was born. Together, they grew up in Winnipeg where Nan remained throughout her life. Although Nan lost her sight at only 19, she remained active and enjoyed a career with the C.N.I.B. working for 15 years in their sewing factory and then another 29 years in canteen services at the National Trust, General Hospital, Woodsworth, and Manitoba Government Legislative buildings. In 1954, Nan married George Stevenson. Blindness affected both Nan and George, but together, they enjoyed meeting the challenges of everyday life. Upon their retirement from the C.N.I.B., they were jointly awarded a commemorative plaque recognizing their combined 84 years of service. Nan loved supporting and participating in the programming at the C.N.I.B. She was especially fond of the C.N.I.B. dances until arthritis interrupted her dancing enjoyment in recent years. George's guide dog Ivan was also an important member of Nan's family. Although he was retired from duty when George passed away in 1992, Ivan remained a faithful companion to Nan for several more years. Nan's relationship with God was very important to her. Her faith and her belief in prayer gave her much comfort over the years. Nan was predeceased by her husband George Stevenson; parents Anne and William Farquhar; brother Bill Farquhar; infant sister Alice Margaret; brother-in-law Ronald (Jesse) Stevenson; sister-in-law Margaret (Bud) Smith, and her companion Ivan. Nan is survived by special friend Maybelle Campbell who graciously helped Nan to maintain her independence for many years, nephews, David (Dana) Farquhar and Roy (Janet) Smith and their daughters, Linda and Lorraine Smith and Laura (Rudy) Edwards and grandson Cody; nieces, Christy Farquhar and Leslie (Robert) Wilbourne and their daughter Kenya; and sisters-in-law, Gail Farquhar and Christina Stevenson. Thank you to the staff at Heritage House and the Health Sciences Centre Unit GA-4, especially nurses Norma Braun and Don Hildebrand. Remembrances may be made to C.N.I.B., 1080 Portage Ave., Winnipeg, MB, R3G 3M3 or the Salvation Army, P.O. Box 1932 Winnipeg, MB, R3C 3R2. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, January 20, 2007 at 1:30 p.m. at Heritage House, 100 Promenade. Arrangements entrusted to: Chapel Lawn Funeral Home And Reception Centre 885-9715
