CLAUDE ARTHUR GUENETTE May 26, 1943 - January 15, 2007 It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our loving husband and father Claude. Claude was predeceased by parents, Alfred and Flore; sisters, Juliette (Donald Delorme), Lynne (Claude Poirier), Annette Dupas, Denise Manaigre; brothers, Richard, Robert and George; brothers-in-law, Georges Guimond and Edouard Thibert. He leaves to mourn his devoted wife of 41 years, Ada (nee Guimond); his beloved children, Danny and Debbie (Daniel Lavigne) and the joy of his life - grandson Mathieu Lavigne. Also left to cherish his memory are brothers, Gilbert, Gerry (Doris), Rolly (Lucille); sisters, Léa Thibert, Rose-Marie (Léo Delorme), Rose-Aimée (Edouard Curé); sisters-in-law, Doreen and Jocelyne; brothers-in-law, Maurice Manaigre, Roger Dupas; mother and father-in-law, Thérèse and Alfred Guimond; in-laws, Anita (Albert Vincent), Jeannine (Robert Chèvrefils), Denis (Lucille), Arthur (Barb), Marc (Suzanne), Claudette Papineau and sister-in-law Rachel Guimond, as well as Madeleine Boisjoli, Paul Papineau, numerous uncles, aunts, cousins, nephews, nieces, great-nephews, great-nieces, friends and former colleagues. Loving memories remain for godchildren, Marcel Dupas, Lionel Guimond, Pierre Manaigre and Melissa Guenette. Claude was born in Saint-Boniface and raised in St-Jean-Baptiste until the 1952 flood during which the family moved to Saint-Boniface. He attended Collège Saint-Boniface and was employed by the Winnipeg Tribune. Claude joined Canada Post in 1965. The better part of his career was spent at the Saint-Norbert Post Office were he was nicknamed Mr. Postmaster until his retirement in 1999. He enjoyed his retirement immensely as he followed politics, world affairs and sporting activities from the comfort of his couch with remote control in hand - notwithstanding his love of cutting the grass via lawn tractor and delegating and supervising chores!! His greatest joy was catching up on news of and being with his beloved Monsieur Mathieu . Only Mathieu could get Pépère in the sand box, throwing the Frisbee, bowling and even on the floor playing with birdseed. Funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, January 19 at the Holy Cross Roman Catholic Church, 252 Dubuc St. Viewing will begin at 10:00 a.m. Interment of the cremated remains will take place at a later date at Glen Lawn Memorial Gardens. The pallbearers will be nephews, Marc Bowman, Christopher and Jean-Paul JP Guenette, Louis Guimond, Pierre and Marcel Manaigre. Flowers gratefully declined.
