BERT SEGAL Bert Segal passed away on December 15, 2006. He was predeceased by his parents Sarah and Charles Segal, his sister, Florence (Sid) Gutnik, his brothers Harry and Terry Segal and his brothers in law Irwin (Spike) Gelfand and Albert Poskar. He is survived by his sisters Ruth Gelfand and Myrna Poskar and his brother Barry (Bev) Segal. His brother Norris (Ursula) Segal survived him by two weeks. He also leaves behind many loving nieces and nephews and grand nieces and nephews. Bert was a good friend to all, a kind and generous soul who enjoyed life even when life became difficult in later years. Bert grew up in Winnipeg's North End, forging lifelong friendships with Al Greenberg, Leo Wolitzer and a cast of characters worthy of Damon Runyan. He spent his career in the film distribution business in Winnipeg and in Toronto. Bert loved screening Disney movies for his nieces and nephews and enjoyed sharing film passes with his friends. For a brief but exciting time he even owned a beauty salon with Leo. Bert never got married, but he always had a twinkle in his eye for women and they in turn were charmed by him. When he suffered ill health in later years he knew he could always count on his sister Ruth and his friends from the film exchange. Family was important to Bert. When he retired he moved back to Winnipeg to be closer with family. Funeral services were held at Etz Chaim Synagogue. Pallbearers were Hart Poskar, Michael Segal, Harley Greenberg, Gideon Shalev, Scott Segal and Howard Morry. Interment was held at the Bnai Abraham Cemetery. Bert, we'll miss you.
