FRANK MESTDAGH August 13, 1921 - January 18, 2007 We are deeply saddened to announce the passing of Frank Mestdagh who died peacefully at St. Boniface Hospital on January 18, 2007. Missing him and remembering him with love today are his loving wife of 60 years, Georgette; his sons, Brian (Terri), Laurie (Kathy), Ronald (Faylene), Robert (Laura); and his only daughter Maureen; together with his grand-children, Chad, Vannesa, Nadine, Genny, Erica, Heather, Sarah, James, Ashley, Kaylee, Jessica and Jaylen. Also left behind to cherish his memory are his brothers, Kelly and Fred (Gerry); together with his nieces and nephews; and his very dear and special friend, Andy Deserranno. Frank was born on August 13, 1921 in Bruxelles, MB and later moved to Winnipeg. He served in the Royal Canadian Air Force during the war and was a proud member of the Belgium Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 107. Upon his return to Winnipeg, he attended technical school and obtained his Statutory Engineer Certificate. He worked at Liquid Carbonic for a great many years until he landed his dream job at CBC where he worked with great co-workers until he retired in 1986. Frank's life centered around his family and we were blessed with the fact that he was jack of all trades, and he seemed a master of them all. He built his own house in 1955 and lived there until his passing. He was always there to help build or repair anything for his family, friends, and neighbours. If anyone had trouble fixing something, they would call Frank and he would always seem to know how to fix it and where to get the parts. He seemed to have more tools than Canadian Tire. The neighbourhood children and his grandchildren were always seen hanging around his garage workshop checking out what he was building and getting him to repair any broken toys and putting in orders for new toy shelves and sandboxes. It was often heard call Grandpa, he can fix it . After his retirement, he teamed up with his retired friend Andy Deserranno and they became a formidable work team. They spent years working tirelessly on projects for their families and friends and the work performed had to meet their very strict standards. As Frank entered into his 80s, the jobs became smaller but right up until late 2006, he would still cut his own grass and clear snow for himself and a neighbour. He was blessed with a very active and healthy life. The family would like to thank the staff at the St. Boniface Hospital for the wonderful care and compassion shown to Frank during his brief stay. Loving and kind in all his ways. Upright and just to the end of his days. Sincere and kind in heart and mind. What a beautiful memory he left behind. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Tuesday, January 23, at 10:00 a.m. at St. Alphonsus Church, 341 Munroe Ave. - corner of Munroe and Brazier with a reception to follow in the church hall next door. Interment will follow at the Belgium Sacred Heart Cemetery in the family plot. The Coutu family in care of arrangements: E.J. COUTU CO. FUNERAL DIRECTORS 680 Archibald St. 253-5086
