RON JAMES On the morning of January 19, 2007, after a short battle with cancer, R.G. Ron James died at the Grace Hospital Hospice. He was predeceased by his wife Pat, his son Michael and his parents, George and Jane. He is survived by a daughter Maureen; a son lan (Darlene); four grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; a brother Terry (Shirley); sister Nancy and many nieces and nephews. Ron was born on November 23, 1921, in Looe Cornwall England. In 1929 he immigrated with his parents and sister to Canada, first settling in Edwin, then in Portage La Prairie where he spent his formative years. In 1941, Ron enlisted in the P.P.C.L.I. at Winnipeg and was sent overseas where, after transferring to the Royal Canadian Engineers, he saw service in North Africa, Sicily, Italy and Holland. While in the hospital recovering from wounds, he met Pat through the virtue of having the same last name. They were married on November 24, 1945 and settled in Carman. Ron held several jobs in Carman before a job as a caretaker at the CBC transmitter piqued his interest in communications. After graduating from a course in electronics, he worked for CBC in Winnipeg until he retired. His retirement years were spent caring for his wife Pat, and after her death he spent some time travelling with his children. Thanks to the staff at the Grace Hospice and at 3 south Grace Hospital. A memorial service will be held on Thursday, January 25 at 10:00 a.m. at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Ave. Remembrances may be made to CancerCare Manitoba, ON1160 - 675 McDermot Ave., Winnipeg, MB R3E 0V9.
