WILLIAM (BILL) HALAS
Date of Passing: Jan 20, 2007
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryWILLIAM (BILL) HALAS After a lengthy and courageous battle, it is with deep sadness that the family announces the passing of William (Bill) Halas on January 20, 2007. He was predeceased by his first wife Elsie, parents Nickolas and Stella, and his sister Angie. Remaining to cherish his memory are his wife Edna and her loving family, son Rick (Gayle), grandsons Garrett and Clay, daughter Nancy (Ryan), his three brothers and numerous nieces and nephews. Bill enjoyed living in Winnipeg all his life and for 57 years was co-owner of Halas Hardware, a North End icon. Here he became known as The man who could fix or build just about anything . Always gentle and patient, Billy taught his children how to drive a car, golf, swim, fish, and to play pool on the beautiful pool table he hand-made. He and Edna enjoyed attending Goldeyes games and Celebrations dinner theatre, playing nickel slots at the Casino, tending to the yard and sharing many a laugh together. Bill's passion for living was truly an inspiration to everyone who knew him. He was determined not to let his illness stand in the way of all the things he enjoyed so much. He will be missed by his many friends with whom he bowled, curled and golfed with over the years, and all the neighbors he enjoyed spending mild summer nights with. The family would like to extend their deepest gratitude to the wonderful nurses, doctors and support staff at Seven Oaks Hospital for their compassion and outstanding care. Prayers will be said on Monday, January 22 at 8:00 p.m. at Cropo Funeral Chapel, 1442 Main Street. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, January 23 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Joseph's Roman Catholic Church, 355 Andrews Street. Interment to follow at Holy Family Cemetery. Flowers gratefully declined. In lieu, donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Manitoba, 6 Donald St., Winnipeg, MB, R3L 0K6. CROPO FUNERAL CHAPEL 586-8044
