She was predeceased by her husband Tommy and brother Jim both in October, 1999, and sister Katherine in November 2004. Mom was born on the family farm in Marquette, MB on September 2, 1912, the youngest child of Reginald and Lilian Wilkes. She married Tommy in 1936 and they farmed and lived in the community until 1988, at which time they moved to Winnipeg. In September 1999, mom and dad moved to Oakview Extendicare and there spent the remainder of their lives. Mom had a very strong faith and worked endlessly for her family, community and church. She was a warm and loving wife, mother and grannie and was happiest when surrounded by the laughter of all she loved. In her later years, her greatest joy was time spent with her grandhcildren and great-grandchildren, baking, singing, reading stories and playing games. A celebration of mom's life will be held on Wednesday, January 24 at 12:00 noon at Meadow Lea Hall (4 miles North of Marquette at the juntion of Hwy. 227 and Hwy 248) with Rev. Ian Mills officiating. Lunch will follow immediately after the service. We greatly appreciate the loving care mom received from all the staff on the main floor at Oakview Place, especially 1 East. In lieu of flowers, donations in mom's memory may be made to the Meadow Lee United Church, Marquette, MB R0H 0V0, or to St. George's Anglican Church, Woodlands, MB R0C 3H0.
