NICHOLETTE PHOTINI VLASSIE 1953 - 2007 It is with great sadness that the family of Nicholette Vlassie announce her unexpected passing on January 25, 2007 at the Grace Hospital. Nicki was predeceased by her mother Alexandra Jacob (Vlassie), Aunt Helen Christou and Uncle Nicholas Vlassie. She is survived by her father Emmanuel (Manoli) Vlassie and his wife Mari; brothers, Andrew Vlassie and his wife Sandra Neumann, and Alexis Vlassie and his partner Mark Bartling; nephew Nicholas Vlassie; uncles and aunts, Constantine (Gus) Vlassie and family, Katherine Vlassie and family, Dr. Van Christou and family, Harry Afaganis and family, Irene Boguski and family, trusted friend and mentor Jean Heath, and extended family and friends. Born in Winnipeg, August 20, 1953, Nicki's education began in St. Louis, Missouri where she attended the school for the deaf. Fortunately in the mid-sixties, the Manitoba School for the Deaf opened and Nicki was able to return to her home in Winnipeg. Nicki was a strong advocate of deaf and was proficient in French, Canadian and American sign languages as well as lip reading. Her work and interests took her to live in Phoenix, Montreal, Calgary and Winnipeg where she worked for Manitoba Health, Rice Financial, and the Toronto Dominion Bank. Nicki pursued her passion for painting and photography throughout her life and was particularly inspired when visiting family in Mexico. Her strong will and great sense of humour will be fondly remembered by all who knew her. The family would like to extend their thanks to the doctors, nurses and staff at the Grace Hospital for their compassionate care and to Nicki's many friends who provided her and the family with constant support during last days of her life. Nicki will always be in the hearts of her brothers, Andrew and Lex. Funeral service will be held at Thomson Funeral Home on Monday, January 29, 2007 at 10:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations will be gratefully accepted towards the establishment of the Nicholette Vlassie Memorial Fund, c/o 507 Shaftesbury Blvd., Winnipeg, MB R3P 0M3 THOMSON FUNERAL HOME 669 Broadway - 783-7211 www.thomsonfuneralchapel.com
