Born: Jul 27, 1929
Date of Passing: Jan 13, 2007
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryMARGARET (PEGGY) CSERES (nee DOLMAGE) July 27, 1929 - January 13, 2007 With great sadness we announce the passing of Margaret (Peggy) Cseres on January 13, 2007 in the Victoria General Hospital in Winnipeg, MB at the age of 77, with her daughter at her side. Left to cherish her memory are her daughter Katharine Schulz (John) and good friend Hendrick Douwes of Winnipeg; sister Alice Somerville; nieces, Mary Davis (Paul), Pat Elmes (Mike), Karen Brenneis (Clifford), Edith Waterhouse (Mike) and Beth Hiebert; and nephew John Somerville (Lynn) and their families, all of Alberta. She will also be missed by many cousins and friends. She is predeceased by her parents, John (Jack) and Alice Dolmage; brother-in-law Hartley Somerville; and former husband Julius Cseres. Margaret was born in Winnipeg on July 27, 1929. At the beginning of the Dirty Thirties, she travelled with her older sister and parents to Erinferry (near Big River) in northern Saskatchewan, where the family pioneered a homestead and built a log cabin home. In her teens, she was sent to live with her aunts in Winnipeg, where she attended Riverbend School for girls (now Balmoral Hall) from grade 10 onwards. The culture shock of moving alone from frontier life to the city was significant, but Peggy rose above the challenges and soon excelled at the top of her class. She then attended United College and transferred to the University of Manitoba, graduating in 1956 with a Bachelor of Arts degree. After studying further at the Wheat City Business College in Brandon, Peggy took a secretarial position with a furniture business there. In 1957, Peggy met Julius, a Hungarian Freedom Fighter during the 1956 Revolution, and now a refugee working on the family farm for her father. She helped him to learn English and they were married on April 22, 1960. Peggy always maintained an active interest and involvement in the farm land and oil business established by her grandfather as the C. R. Somerville Co. Ltd. She also enjoyed having her mother living close by and lovingly cared for her during her later years until her passing in 1988. Beginning in the 1970s, Peggy served for eight years as secretary of the Board of Stewards of Hartney United Church. She volunteered with Meals on Wheels and for several years she also canvassed for the Canadian Cancer Society. Peggy was a beautiful woman, known for her elegant style and taste in clothing. More importantly, though, she was sustained by her strong Christian faith, and she touched all those who knew her with her loving, gentle and compassionate nature. Peggy also loved animals and was sensitive to their suffering. Her little poodle, Buffy, was her beloved companion for 11 years until 2002. In November 2002, Peggy moved to Lindenwood Manor, a lovely seniors' complex in southwest Winnipeg, where she could be closer to her daughter and to medical care in the city. She made several new friends and greatly enjoyed this new phase of her life. The family would like to thank all the residents, staff and volunteers at Lindenwood Manor, as well as the WRHA Home Care staff who were so kind to Mother these past four years. Thank you also to Dr. S. Permack and the nurses and staff of the 4th floor of Victoria General Hospital for all their patient and compassionate care. The funeral service was held at Hartney United Church, with interment at Riverside Cemetery in Hartney, MB on January 20, 2007. To honour Peggy's memory, donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or to a Humane Society or charity of one's choice. Kowalchuk's Funeral Home, Souris, in care of arrangements.
