GERT WIEBE It is with deep sadness, we announce the passing of Gert Wiebe of Brandon on January 13, 2007 at the age of 71. Gert was born on August 21, 1935 to Anna and Abram Dyck on the family farm near Plum Coulee. It was here where she met her future husband, Neil. They were married in 1955 and made their home in Brandon. Later on, they were blessed with a daughter, Cheryl. Gert spent the first years of married life being a devoted wife and mother. She enjoyed baking and sewing for her family. She joined a local bowling league and won several trophies. Gert also went to ACC to upgrade her education. She spent many happy years as the Avon Lady . Later on she was a saleslady at Barclay's Men's Wear. She loved to play cards and Yahtzee and took great delight in defeating anyone who would challenge her. Gert and Neil had a lot of fun with neighbourhood friends. They too had many wonderful holidays at Clear Lake and in the Bahamas. After Neil's passing in 1996, Gert spent several years alone. She often travelled to Alberta to visit with her daughter and grandson, whom she adored. Then one day she met a very special man; he, too, a widower. Cherishing the love, laughter and good times is Gert's companion and best friend for the past six years, Fred Gaukel of Brandon. Fred and Gert enjoyed dancing, playing crib and just being together with friends and family. We would like to express a very special thank you to the Gaukel family for their kindness and support. Gert will be dearly missed by her daughter, Cheryl (Barry) Lang; grandson Tyler; stepgranddaughters, Brooke and Jenna of Beiseker, AB; brother Art (Mary) Dyck of Altona; brother Jim (Marlene) Dyck of Altona and sister Deanna (Benny) Penner of Stettler, AB. She will also be fondly remembered by many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. The ceremony to celebrate Gert's life was held on January 17, 2007 at the Redeemer Lutheran Church with Pastor Ted Jannuska officiating. A private graveside ceremony followed at the Brandon Cemetery. The family would like to express sincere thanks to the doctors and nurses in the ICU at the Brandon Regional Hospital for their excellent care and compassion. Also, thank you to the church ladies for the lunch after the ceremony, to Pastor Ted for his prayers and to Duane for such lovely music. Friends, who wish, may make a donation in memory of Gert to the Canadian Cancer Society, 193 Sherbrook Street, Winnipeg, MB R3C 2B7. Mom, we will dearly miss your friendship, sense of humour, love and laughter. Gone is the face we loved so dear, Silent is the voice we loved to hear, Too far away for sight or speech, But not too far for thought to reach.
