MURIEL THELMA BERRY Peacefully with her family at her side, on Thursday, January 25, 2007 at the Portage District General Hospital, Muriel Thelma Berry of Portage la Prairie, widow of the late Edwin Berry passed away at the age of 83 years. Funeral service will be held in the chapel of the Omega Funeral Home on Tuesday, January 30, at 3:00 p.m. with the Reverend Ross Taylor officiating. Interment will follow in Hillside Cemetery. Muriel was born on November 19, 1923, daughter of Richard and Barbara Cusack at Reston, MB, where she was raised and received her education. On April 12, 1944, she married Edwin Berry and they farmed at Reston. Before her marriage she worked as a teller at a bank in Boissevain and started her teaching career at Kinloss in a one-room school. Due to her husband's line of work, she taught and was a substitute teacher in the communities of MacGregor, Austin, Gladstone and Kipling. Upon retirement in 1983, they settled in Portage la Prairie, moving to Dalton Grove Estates in 2002 and later she moved to reside at the Lion's Prairie Manor. Muriel was a member of the Trinity United Church, the Electra #2 Eastern Star receiving her 50-year pin in 2006, the Reston United Church Women's Guild, and was a 4-H leader as well as participating in many other volunteer activities. During her younger years she enjoyed curling, bowling, swimming and being involved in her children's activities. They enjoyed travelling with friends extensively to Portugal, Europe, Mexico, throughout Canada and the United States. In the later years they spent most winters in Victoria, BC. Predeceased by her parents, and her husband Ed, she leaves to mourn her passing her daughter Bonnie (Craig) McKinstry of Killarney; grandson Kyle (Jodi), great-granddaughter Shae-Lynn; grandson Lindsay (Julie), great-grandchildren, McKenna, Nash; granddaughter Reagan, daughter Edwina Winnie (John) Walsh of Portage, grandchildren: Dana, Jaret; son Richard (Kathy) of Portage, grandchildren: Liam, Dylan; daughter Dawn (Neil) Daku of Regina, grandchildren: Rhys, Cort, and Tait. Also surviving is one sister Ruth Fraser of Victoria, BC; brother-in-law Boyd Berry of Reston, MB, several nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
