DOROTHY DEBORAH (MORRISON) ATKINSON Husband and girls beside her, for a most blessedly peaceful passing, Bill's beautiful Dorothy, precious love of his life, went on alone from Lion's Personal Care Centre on January 25, 2007. Bill and Dorothy met in 1937 and were married in 1940. Dorothy spent a long lonely time praying for Bill's safe return from the Second World War. Bill will be lonely now as his Dorothy waits, once again, for him to come home. Born a twin, Dorothy's brothers, Jack and Bill Morrison predeceased her. Her parents, William and Nance Morrison, Scottish emigrants, raised their family in Winnipeg's west end. Like many during the Depression, their early lives were simple and hard, clean living and loving. Bill and Dorothy sang many duets and their voices blended as beautifully as their lives. Dorothy was devoted not only to Bill, but to her three daughters, Samantha (Peter Johnson), Coralie (Hal Thiessen) and Gwen (Wayne) Black, and to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, Dana, Darcy, Kerstin and Eric Skow, Glen (Julie Schoenherr) Bornais, Kyle (Crystal) Bornais, Chris, Thomas and Daniel Black. All children loved tiny Nana Dorothy. A beautiful child and woman, Dorothy was blessed with an exceptional musical talent, singing, and playing piano and organ. She shared those talents from the time she was a young child. Her sweet soprano voice was familiar in many churches including Chalmers and McClure United. For many years she sang with and accompanied the Winnipeg Senior Citizens Choir. Dorothy's life could be defined by her love of music, her church, her family and her beloved Bill. Surely a life is well lived when, with love, you have shared your talents. * * * The family extends their most sincere appreciation to the 3rd floor staff of Lion's Personal Care Centre for their love and devotion to Dorothy's care. A memorial service to celebrate Dorothy's life will be held Wednesday, January 31 at 2:00 p.m. at McClure United Church, 533 Greenwood Pl., with Rev. Wendy Rankin officiating. Flowers gratefully declined. Donations may be made in Dorothy's name to McClure United Church Memorial Fund.
