IRENE WEISENSEL August 15, 1919 - January 24, 2007 On the morning of January 24, 2007 Irene passed away at Seven Oaks Hospital. Irene will be lovingly remembered and sadly missed by her son and daughter-in-law, Jim and Wendy Geddes; granddaughters, Corrie (Sean Purvis) and Tara Geddes (Ken Dolinsky). She also leaves behind the newest man in her life, great-grandson Benjamin, and she will surely be watching in April when her new great-grandchild is born. Irene was predeceased by her husband Francis on April 1, 2006. She was also predeceased by her dear sisters and brother, Pat Walker, Dode Chalmers and Eddy Bloomer. Irene graduated from the Winnipeg General Hospital School of Nursing and began her career as a neurology scrub nurse in Montreal. Following her return home to Winnipeg, she became the city's first public health nurse. She was proud of her profession and especially proud of her role in the formation of the nurse's union. Irene retired in 1975, but always looked forward to attending each nursing reunion. She and Francis spent their retirement traveling, playing bridge and enjoying their cabin in Petersfield. As a scrabble fanatic, she was always ready for a game and a hundred point lead was never a large enough cushion when you played with Grandma Irene. Irene was devoted to her family and her happiest times were at family gatherings. She shared her love of the outdoors and all creatures great and small with Jim, Corrie and Tara. Irene's words I've had a wonderful life will give us comfort but we will miss her smile, her laugh, her kindness and her love. The family extends special thanks to the caring friends who visited Irene during the past year. She enjoyed your company and you brightened her days. A sincere thank you to Homecare Services, especially Pam and Terri. Your kindness and helpfulness allowed Irene to enjoy her independence. In keeping with Irene's wishes, a private family service has been held at Chapel Lawn. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Irene's memory to the Winnipeg Humane Society. Beauty exists in the very experience of living-and that is cause for rejoicing. Thomas Kinkade Arrangements entrusted to: Chapel Lawn Funeral Home And Reception Centre 885-9715
