ELLA MAY MACTIER (nee HONEY) Our Mom, Gramma, Great-gramma, Ella Mactier passed away quietly with family at her side on Monday, January 29, 2007 at Tuxedo Villa Care Home where she has resided for two years. She was predeceased by her loving husband of 61 years, Colin Mactier in 2002. She is survived by her grateful family for whom she was always there with a meal, a bed, a laugh or a hug. Missing her today are two daughters, Elizabeth and Audrey; grandchildren, Brent, Victoria and Mira and Gary, great-grandchildren Betheni, Stephen and Colin; sister Irene and brother Gordon as well as many loving nieces and nephews. Ella was born on the farm where she was raised, June 15, 1918, outside of Binscarth, Manitoba. She worked as a hairdresser until her marriage in 1942 when she and Colin left the farm with the proceeds from the sale of one wagon load of grain, a wedding gift from Grampa Mactier. They moved many times and worked at an eclectic number of things each move making life better, ending the work part of life with C E STABLES in Charleswood and later Onanole. They ran sleigh rides, taught riding, ran trail rides, boarded horses, ran summer camps for adolescent girls, won prizes with heavy horse show teams, participated in parades, ran B B and Farm Vacation. Anyone who ever sat at her table still raves about the home-made meals. Not just the cook however, she harnessed those teams and drove them in 30 below when it needed to be done. No matter what, if it needed to be done, Ella did it. They retired to Meadowlark Trailer Park in Brandon. While retired they traveled, cruised on land and sea, played cards, raised gardens and volunteered. Always popular with everyone, they loved to visit and feed family and friends. They lived in Lions Manor in Brandon until 2002 when Mom moved into assisted living at Arlington House in Winnipeg and then to Tuxedo Villa as her health declined. Our family would like to express our enormous gratitude to the support team Don Chase, Moira Honey, Wesley and Pam Peters, Caron and Harry, Debbie, Janie, Marlise and Monty, Bobbie Holland, Joan, Marion and George, Kay Hunt, nursing and activities staff at Tuxedo Villa and particularly our adopted through love sister Susan Kelly. At Ella's request, there will not be a funeral. In the spring when the sun is shining, the flowers she loved are blooming and bird's are singing there will be a graveside service in Binscarth when she will be laid beside her partner whom she has missed so dearly. Since Mom was a 40 year breast cancer survivor and left cancer free, in lieu of flowers please send donations to: Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation Prairies/NWT Chapter #700-10665 Jasper Ave Edmonton, Alberta T5J 3S9 Arrangements entrusted to: VOYAGE FUNERAL HOME CREMATORIUM FAMILY OWNED OPERATED 1531 Pembina Hwy 284-7500
