HERDIS BUUS (nee THOGERSEN) Peacefully on January 29, 2007 at the Selkirk General Hospital, Herdis Buus, aged 81 years, passed away. Herdis was born August 23, 1925 in Ry, Denmark. She was a graduated Chef and worked at Hotel Henning. She married Laurits on August 23, 1947 in Denmark, where they lived for 10 years. In 1957 they moved to Canada and made Winnipeg, MB home for their family and eventually moved to Selkirk in 1975. In 1969 they started a family construction business and she did all the bookkeeping for the company until she retired in 1993. For retirement she and her husband travelled in their motorhome across North America. Herdis was very involved with her family and it was an important part of her life. Her house was always open to all and her hospitality was well known to all family and friends. She enjoyed the outdoor life, her time at the cottage in Betula Lake, snowmobiling with the Springhill Trailblazers, on their boat in the Red River, her garden at home. One of her passions was cooking and baking. She loved to share her talents with her daughters-in-law and granddaughters. When she had company, everyone waited with anticipation for the cookie tin to be brought out. Herdis is survived by her husband Laurits; her sons, Poul (Linda), Svend (Diane), John (Kim); her special nephew Soren; her grandchildren, Cheryl, Ken (Anjie), Nancy (Russell), Erik, Craig (Tami), Lindsay, Arden; her great-grandchildren, Connley, Grace, Liberty, Jonas (Brittany), Tori; her siblings in Denmark, Verner (Ella), Finn (Henny), Ebba (Ivan), Gurli (Per); sister-in-law Mette who visited her in Canada often and numerous family in Denmark. Herdis was predeceased by her parents, Johanes and Kirsten and grandson Kaleb. Special thank you to Dr. Demsas, Dr. Lindenschmidt and the staff at Selkirk General Hospital and Selkirk Betel Home. Memorial service will be held on Friday, February 2 at 2:00 p.m. at the Springs Church, 479 Eveline St., Selkirk, MB. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in memory of Herdis to the Alzheimer Society of Manitoba. Rock Fontaine Funeral Director in care of arrangements (204) 223-2576 or (866) 499-2601.
