VERA FUCHS (KOCH) Peacefully, on January 29, 2007, at the Ashern Personal Care Home, with her son at her bedside, Vera Fuchs, aged 93 years of Ashern, MB. Vera was born on November 5, 1913, in Ghana, Hungary. In 1926, at the age of 12, she immigrated to Canada with her family and settled in the Ashern district. As a young woman, she worked at the Woodlands General Store. Following her father's accident, she returned to Ashern to help on the farm and also worked for the Schwartz family. On April 17, 1940 she married Joseph Fuchs and together they homesteaded in the Ashern area until retiring from the farm in 1978 when they moved to town. After 2001, Mom moved to the First Choice Manor and then to the Personal Care Home in 2005 until her passing. Mom (Granny) was a humanitarian who cared about everyone, especially her family. Mom never judged people -- they were all the same in her eyes. She loved company and always had a cup of coffee and baking on the table. Mom lovingly tended to her flowers and garden, and when on the farm, cared for the various animals. Vera was active in the Catholic Church and at one time had invited Nuns to stay with her. She was famous for her bread especially at the Catholic Bazaar where people would wait at her table to buy a loaf or two. Mom leaves to mourn her children: son Ted (Monica) of Ashern, MB and their children, Brent of Roblin, MB, (and friend Lisa), Scott (and fianceƩ Tannis) of Garson, MB, Melissa of Winnipeg, MB and Kevin of Ashern, MB; daughter Lillian (Mike) Wirgau of Beausejour, MB, and their children, Audrey (Neil) Miller of Pinawa, MB, and Dianne (John) Babiak of Lac du Bonnet, MB; daughter Mary (Ben) Kolodka of Winnipeg, MB and their children, Brenda (Ron) Prychitko of St. Andrews, MB, Ellen (Erwin) Follhoffer of St. Andrews, Edward (Jennifer) Kolodka of Grand Forks, ND; daughter Phyllis (Ernie) of Hazelridge, MB; great-grandchildren, Barret and Troy Miller, Jonathan Babiak, Megan and Derek Prychitko, Karl and Kyle Follhoffer and Dimitri Kolodka; a brother Matthew (Theresa) Koch and their families in Pennsylvania; daughter-in-law Thelma Hogue of Winnipeg, MB, along with many nieces, nephews, extended family and cherished friends. She was predeceased by her husband Joseph in 1988; sons, Edward in 1953 and Gary in 1988; also other family members. Prayers will be said at 7:30 p.m. on Sunday, February 4, 2007 at the Holy Cross Catholic Church in Ashern, MB. Requiem Mass will be at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, February 5, 2007 at the Holy Cross Catholic Church with Father Michael Raj officiating. Interment to follow in the Holy Cross Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Edward Kolodka, Brent Fuchs, Scott Fuchs, Barret Miller, Troy Miller and Jonathan Babiak. Crossbearer will be Kevin Fuchs. The family appreciates all those who enhanced Mom's life with their acts of kindness.and thoughtfulness.
