JANE MARTENS (nee ZALUSKY) June 8, 1940 January 27, 2007 Peacefully, and with dignity, with her husband Frank and niece Brenda at her side, Jane passed away after a courageous battle with cancer at the Pinawa Hospital. Jane is survived by her husband Frank, of 31 years; her brothers, Walter, John, and Peter; sisters, Francis, Stella, and Violet, families and many friends. Jane was predeceased by her parents, Katherine and Steve Zalusky, and her sister Helen. Jane retired from Old Dutch Foods in 1995 and moved from Winnipeg to her cottage at Betula Lake with her husband Frank. While Jane was a very private person she cherished her friends she made at the lake. Jane's garden was her sanctuary and she lovingly tended her flowers. Her furry and feathered friends were always welcome and never left hungry. She adored her dog Tipper of 21 and one half years, and her new pet companion Kricket, who will miss her. Jane spent endless hours in her kitchen making soup, which was a favourite past-time. She especially enjoyed making cherry squares for her great-nephew Kyle. Cremation has taken place at Jane's request. No service will be held. Flowers gratefully declined. If friends and family wish, donations may be made in her memory to the Canadian Cancer Society or Winnipeg Humane Society. Death only comes to let us know, we love more deeply than we show, but love in death should let us see, what love in life should always be.
