Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryJOHN (JACK) NATHANIEL MCKAY Peacefully on January 31, 2007 at the Ashern Personal Care Home, with his family by his side, Jack McKay, aged 74 years of Ashern, MB. Jack was born July 17, 1932 in Ashern, MB and attended school at Goulbourne. He helped on the farm with his parents, and later Jack worked clearing brush with Caterpillars. His parents moved to Ashern when his father took ill. For over 30 years Jack worked for the Manitoba Government as a Game Warden (Forestry) in the Interlake area. In his younger years he enjoyed big game and bird hunting. He loved the outdoors and gardening, but most of all enjoyed being with his family. For many years Jack operated a hot dog stand (Major League Hot Dogs) in Ashern and Winnipeg. He leaves to mourn one son John McKay (Billie); three daughters all from Winnipeg, Arlene Kennington, Angela Toonstra and Darlene McKay; two brothers, Dennis (Dorothy) and Mervin; sisters, Phyllis (George) Gates, Garneetta (Lloyd) MacLennan; his grandchildren, Rodney Kennington, Alexcy McKay, Deseree McKay, Desmond McKay, Kyle Toonstra, Jared McKay, and Brittney McKay; great-grandchildren, Aleah McKay-Bird, Misko Benaise McKay-Bird, Jaeyds Danyl McKay; also many nieces, nephews and friends. He was predeceased by his mother Ivy; father Collin; brothers, Walter and Garnet; sisters, Leona Mymryk, Colleen Beaudry, and Helen Thickins, also by his companion Irma Comeau. Funeral service will be held on Tuesday, February 6, 2007 at 2:00 p.m. in the Ashern Legion Hall with Pastor Bill Watson officiating. Service will terminate at the hall with cremation to follow. Interment at a later date in the Ashern Municipal Cemetery. A luncheon will follow the service. Friends and relatives may pay their respects on Monday, February 5, 2007 from 7:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Arnason Funeral Home in Ashern, MB. Viewing also at the hall prior to the service. Pallbearers will Jack's grandchildren. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Kidney Foundation of Canada, Manitoba Branch, 730 Taylor Ave., Winnipeg, MB R3M 2K8. John was my great-uncle whom I never met but heard great things about. I am the granddaughter of Phyllis (George) Gates and I am sending my condolences all these years later after delving into my family history. I wish I could have met John.
