Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryGLADYS ADELINE NELSON Peacefully with her family by her side, Gladys passed away after a short illness on Monday, January 29, 2007 at the Heritage Lodge Personal Care Home. Remaining to forever cherish Gladys' memory are her husband of 65 years, Earl and her three daughters, Linda (Ray), Jan (Shell) and Kris (Kit), plus six grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Gladys was born May 4, 1920 to parents, Archibald and Adeline Simpkins. She was the eldest of three, predeceased by her sister Doris and survived by her younger brother Harold. Gladys was born and raised in the St. James area where she met her one and only sweetheart - Earl. Mom always liked to quote that a good marriage involved working together like a good team of horses - both pulling together which all of her daughters follow to this day. On January 17 of this year, Gladys and Earl celebrated their 65th Wedding Anniversary - a tremendous milestone. In latter years, Mom's increased health needs necessitated a move to a personal care home, Dad visited her daily - sometimes even twice a day. Mom at 86 still enjoyed a good joke, her love of chocolate and the occasional glass of beer. Mom's life could be defined by her love of music, her daughters and her beloved Earl. The family would like to extend their thanks and heartfelt appreciation to the caring staff at the Heritage Lodge care home, specifically the second floor staff for their love and care of Gladys. Forever in our hearts, we'll miss you always. In keeping with Gladys' wishes there will be no formal service, however a celebration of her life will be held at Chapel Lawn - 4000 Portage Ave. on Saturday, February 3 at 1:00 p.m. Flowers gratefully declined, if friends wish, they can make a donation to a charity of their choice.
