GIUSEPPE (JOE) RUSSO Peacefully with his family by his side on February 1, 2007, Giuseppe Russo entered into God's Kingdom to join his beloved wife, Mimma. He will be sadly missed by his children, Connie (Frank), Guzzi, Mishelle Russo, Mark (Delaine) Russo and grandchildren, David, Stefan and Isabella. He is also survived by his sister, Grazia (Michele) Albanese in Winnipeg, and Francesco (Gina) Russo, Antonia Russo, Rina (Antonio) VadalĂ  in Italy. He also leaves behind Mimma's sisters, brother and their families, along with numerous nieces and nephews, both in Winnipeg and in Italy. Joe was born on May 4, 1933 in Sitizano, Reggio Calabria, Italy. He immigrated to Canada in 1956 and returned to Italy in 1961 to marry Mimma. They both returned to Winnipeg to establish a life and raise their family. Joe was known as an extremely hard worker having started at a young age in the coal mines in Belgium. When he came to Winnipeg, he started working in construction primarily as a cement finisher, having worked over 20 years at Winnipeg Construction. During his retirement years, Joe took great pride and pleasure in his hobbies such as gardening and making wine, cheese, bread, sausages and pasta sauce. Joe enjoyed his coffee visits with friends. He derived great pleasure spending time with his children and grandchildren. Many memorable summers were spent with his family and friends at the cabin he built at Winnipeg Beach. In 2004, Joe took his entire family to Cuba for a holiday and in 2005 he was thrilled to spend Christmas with all of his siblings in Italy. Joe was a source of strength and support to his family, especially during the difficult years of his wife's illness. His family was always the most important thing in his life. The family wishes to thank and acknowledge home care workers, Agnes and Linda, visiting nurse Janet and his friends, Ed and Peter. Prayers will be at Holy Rosary Church, 510 River Ave. on Sunday, February 4 at 6:30 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Holy Rosary Church on Monday, February 5 at 11:00 a.m. with Fr. Sam Argenziano presiding. Entombment to follow at the Chapel of Eternal Memories Mausoleum at 1501 Waverley. Pallbearers will be Bruno Zappia, Carmine Urciuoli, Cliff Barth, Maurizio Basso, Pat Albanese, Peter Allard, with Honorary pallbearers, Joe Cirillo, David Guzzi and Stefan Guzzi. In lieu of flowers, the family gratefully accepts donations in Joe's memory to CancerCare Manitoba. THOMSON IN THE PARK FUNERAL HOME AND CEMETERY 1291 MCGILLIVRAY BLVD. Condolences & Memories (1 entries)

  • Dear Mark, Connie, Mishelle and families, I was so very, very saddened to hear about the loss of your dear father. He was such a wonderful neighbor and friend. I will never forget the wonderful tomatoes, beans, zucchini and beans he so generously shared with me. I will miss his gardening advice and his smiles. May you find comfort in all the beautiful memories you shared together. God Bless. With sympathy and love Joe's neighbor Wendy - Posted by: Wendy Spillett (Friend) on: Feb 05, 2007
