CATHERINE ARTHUR Peacefully, on Thursday, February 1, 2007, Catherine Arthur passed away at Red River Place in Selkirk. She was predeceased by her husband Roy Arthur in 1968. Born March 7, 1916 at Gimli, Manitoba, Catherine was the youngest child of George and Martha Wawrykow. She was predeceased by her sister Anne Zawatsky, and her brothers Max, Michael, Daniel, Joseph, and John. She is survived, and sadly missed, by her nieces and nephews and their families, and two sisters-in-law. In 1939, Catherine graduated from the Misericordia School of Nursing, where she made many close friends. She delighted in seeing her classmates at the annual reunions which she attended faithfully right through to 2006. Upon marrying Roy, Catherine became a homemaker and the couple moved to Pine Falls, Manitoba. When Roy retired, the couple moved to a small acreage south of Selkirk and became members of St. Clements Anglican Church. After Roy's death, Catherine updated her medical training and returned to nursing. She worked at Princess Elizabeth Hospital until 1981. During her retirement, she enjoyed time with family and friends. She generously treated guests to her delicious vinarterta which was a highlight at family gatherings. Catherine was fond of animals of all types. She cared lovingly not only for her pets, but also for the creatures of the wild, be they birds, squirrels, deer or less appreciated species. With her passing, we have lost a kind and giving person. We will remember her with love. To emulate her caring spirit would be a fitting tribute. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Clements Anglican Church 1188 River Road, St.Andrews,Manitoba, R1A 4A1 or The Winnipeg Humane Society, 5 Kent Street Winnipeg, MB R2L 1X3, or any charity of your choice.
