KATHRYN (KAY) DEFOORT It is with deep sadness that our family announces the passing of Kay on Saturday, February 3, 2007 at the St. Boniface Hospital Palliative Care Unit. Left to cherish her memory is her loving husband Harry of 44 years; children, Wendy (Eric), Brenda, and Ken (Kim), and her precious granddaughters, Leah, Sara, Hayley, Grace and Sophia. Kay was born June 19, 1937 in Souris, MB. After graduating from high school, she moved to Winnipeg to take nursing and graduated in 1959. She worked at St. Boniface General Hospital and made many friends. Her family was most important to her especially her grandchildren. She made each person feel so special. She was a gentle soul and great listener, willing to be at your side in an instant. Despite her illness, she remained young at heart. She had a contagious sense of humour and loved to laugh. As a wife, mother, nanny, friend and nurse, Kay taught us all by example. No life lesson will ever be more inspiring than her faith and courage in the illness that took her from us. Her love will be with us forever. We would like to thank Cancer Care, Dr. Maksymiuk, Jennifer, and all the nurses and staff in the chemo room. Also thank you to Melanie and the volunteers. Special thanks as well to Dr. Garcia, and 8A Palliative Care Staff. A memorial service will be held Thursday, February 8 at 2:00 p.m. at Transcona Memorial United Church, 209 Yale Ave W. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to CancerCare, MB, 675 McDermot or the Pet Rescue Shelter.
