FLORENCE KATHLEEN GOJAN 1927 2007 On Sunday, February 4, 2007, with family at her side, Florence passed away at Holy Family Nursing Home, at the age of 79 years. Florence was one of four children born to the late Katherina and Nicholas Gojan. She was also predeceased by her sister Helen in 2006; her brother John in 2007, and her nephew Lloyd Buffie in 1983. Her oldest sibling, Lillian Buffie, will forever hold a very special place in her heart for Florence. Celebrating her gifts to them and this earth, for all she was and all she gave, Auntie Flo will be sorrowfully missed by Lillian's children, Gary Buffie (Cathy Van de Vorst), Marilynn Phillips (Alan, great-nephew Scott) of Calgary, David Buffie (Mary-Anne), Jim Buffie (Lara), Sandy Waite (Rob, great-niece Brookelynn) and Chris Cowan (Larry). Florence was raised in the north end of Winnipeg and lived in the family home on Bannerman Avenue until after her mother's passing in 1999. Although she had never been away from home she moved into a group home setting shortly after. This change was monumental for her, but she adapted and accepted this new path with strength and courage. As her mother's right hand, it was Flo's responsibility to carry out the daily chores of the household. She did this with great pride and always aspired to do her best. She took weekly walks to and from the grocery store no matter the weather, helped fix meals, tended the garden, and kept order in the home. Florence often made frequent visits to Holy Family to see her sister Helen, and later, her mother and sister Lily. She also relished group outings to St. James where she enjoyed doing crafts, her weekly Bingo expeditions, simply watching TV, and of course eating! Her favourite was cucumbers and sour cream, as well as the many traditional meals her mother made. Florence had an endearing personality which affected everyone she met in a very special way. Her sweet demeanor and somewhat shy personality were fully capable of exuding kindness, love and compassion. She loved to laugh, and thoroughly enjoyed witty banter during family visits. She had a precious smile and always a warm sparkle in her beautiful brown eyes. The family wishes to extend their sincere thanks and appreciation to caregivers and volunteers past and present who all contributed to Florence's happiness and comfort. Flowers are gratefully declined. The family requests that donations be made to the Holy Family Nursing Home or to the Manitoba Heart and Stroke Foundation. A Celebration of Life will take place on Friday, February 9, 2007, at 1:00 p.m. at Cropo Funeral Chapel, 1442 Main St. with Fr. Ceas Chmiel presiding. Interment will follow at Brookside Cemetery where Florence will be laid to rest in peace, next to her sister Helen and brother John. Worthy of eternal happiness in the light of God's grace.
