WILLIAM (BILL) RALPH OGILVIE Following a lengthy illness on Wednesday, February 7, 2007, at the Portage District General Hospital, William Bill Ralph Ogilvie of Portage la Prairie, formerly of Winnipeg, Manitoba, beloved husband of Irene Ogilvie passed away at the age of 83 years. A reception will be held at the Royal Canadian Legion, 275 Duke Ave., Portage on Saturday, February 10, 2007 from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. Bill was born in Teulon, Manitoba on September 21, 1923. He received his education at Durban, Manitoba. When the family moved to Oakland, Bill joined the Air Force at Portage. After completing a tour of operations (30 flights over enemy territory) he returned to Canada where he experienced a number of jobs. Becoming an electrician, he worked construction for 16 years and Electrical Maintenance at Winnipeg School Board for 26 years, retiring in 1985. Retirement meant travel and many winters were spent in Arizona, Texas, New Zealand and British Columbia. They received an award for service rendered to the Snowbird Association. Bill was a Mason since 1952, and was honoured by the Brotherhood of Electrical Workers for 61 years of service, and the Canadian Legion for 45 years in 2005. He was a member of the Patricia Chapter #8 Order of the Eastern Star. Being an avid curler, he was an honorary member of the Elmwood Curling Club. He drove for Masonic CancerCare for 10 years in Winnipeg and Portage. Gardening was a lifelong hobby and he prided himself on having the first tomato of the season. While his garden diminished as the years wore on, his enthusiasm remained. He would drive to the edge of his garden at Heather's several times a week. Hunting, fishing and boating were important family activities in his early years and cribbage was a particular passion of his. He enjoyed many trips to the Silver Broom around the world and this made it possible for Dad to amass a grand collection of curling pins. Predeceased by his parents, two brothers, Fred and James, two sisters, Mary-June Emberly and Peggy Love, he leaves to mourn his passing his wife Irene; his son Allister (Phyllis); his son Jim (Kathie), granddaughter Jackie (Sam), great-granddaughter Kryn; his daughter Heather (Alan) Brown, and grandsons, Kyle (Alanna) and Derek. Also surviving are two brothers, Tom (Del) of Portage, Sandy of Kelowna; two brothers-in-law, Lorne Emberly of BC, Jack Love of Portage, and several nieces and nephews. Should friends so desire, memorial donations may be made in Bill's name to a charity of your choice. Friends may leave a message of sympathy on our web site www.omegafuneralhome.com Dedicated to those we serve . Well, I don't know about you silly buggers, but I've gone to bed.
