EMMA CLARA DEGEN Peacefully, on February 5, 2007 at St. Norbert Personal Care Home, Emma passed away at the age of 92 years. Left to mourn Emma is her sister-in-law Isabelle Degen; nephew Gene (Barb) Degen; niece Joan (Graham) Mercer; great-nieces, Erin (Peter), Samantha and Kitana; great-nephew Owen, and great-great-niece Summer. Emma was predeceased by her parents, Julius and Clara Degen (Schilling) who were born in Worms, Germany, and her brother Ted in 2004. Emma was born in Ste. Agathe in 1914. She moved to Darlingford in 1920. She attended school at Calf Mountain and Darlingford and entered the school of nursing at the Grace Hospital in 1941 and graduated in 1944. She nursed in Portland, OR, Chicago, IL and Deer Lodge Hospital. Emma was a member of the Unity Church, the Grace Hospital Alumni and the Canadian Authors Club, and was an avid supporter to the Royal Winnipeg Ballet. Thank you to all of the staff at the St. Norbert Personal Care Home. A Service will be held on Friday, February 9, 2007 at 12:30 p.m. at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Ave., with reception to follow. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Emma's name to the David Suzuki Foundation, Suite 219, 2211 West 4th Avenue, Vancouver, BC, V6K 4S2.
