ILA ALTA KUXHOUSE (aka COOKE) September 27, 1912 - January 14, 2007 Ila is at peace. The beautiful eldest daughter of Alfred and Ida Evenson (Nelson) who emigrated from Minnesota to the 1-5W area of the Municipality of Stanley, Ila enjoyed country life. Ila learned from her father, a veterinarian, and her mother, a Lutheran minister's daughter, about responsible stewardship of the earth, beasts and children, which became her passion. Predeceased by her husband Frederick; her parents and five siblings, Arley, Lawrence (Mae), Blanche May, Stacy (Violet Holtz) and Victoria Prusko (Joe). To mourn are children, Susan Cooke, twins, Kate Davis and Fred; and seven siblings, Dennis, Francis, Stanley (Evelyn), Blanche Mae Buchanan (John), Neila Dickman, Leita Page (Ed) and Selmar; grandchildren, Michael, Scott (Heather) and Deanna Davis; great-grandchildren, Addison and Mya Davis of Boise, ID; and her nieces and nephews, especially Gladys Gahunia (Dr. Udhe) of Phoenix, AZ. Leaving home at 14 prior to the Depression, Mom laboured for several families as a domestic, baker and cook, eventually marrying Fred in 1943. Homemaking and organizational skills came in handy while farming a sandy section four miles northeast of Morden until 1962. Mom enjoyed her duties at the Morden Hospital as Laundry Supervisor retiring in 1985 after 27 years. Landscaping and fruit growing were consuming hobbies.
