Date of Passing: Jan 16, 2007
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryDR. MATTHEW COHEN The family of the late Dr. Matthew Cohen wishes to express great sorrow at his passing on January 16, 2007. He is survived by his loving wife Nancy, his two children, Sari and Marli. His mother Pat, his sister Beryl (Mike), brother David (Jackie), as well as his mother-in-law Clara Block and large extended family of sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, and cousins. Matthew was a loving giving person with a marvelous sense of humour, whose greatest joy was spending time with his family and extended family. Matthew's interest in Science began at a young age and continued as he made the decision to pursue a career in medicine. He excelled in his studies and received an award in Biology for the highest academics in his class. After completing a rotating internship he began working as a Doctor at the Misericordia and Victoria Hospital. It was during this time that he developed an interest in Anesthesia and decided to pursue post graduate studies. He thrived in his residency program and was Chief Resident in his final year. Upon completion of his residency he did a fellowship in Regional Anesthesia in Ottawa. Matthew spent the remaining years working at both St. Boniface and Health Sciences Centre. He enjoyed the challenges that work offered especially the opportunity to teach Residents and Medical Students. He had many hobbies including participating in Minneapolis and Winnipeg marathons. He was constantly striving to improve his knowledge and skills in many mediums such as Photography, Computer Science, Carpentry, Electronics and travelling. The family is deeply appreciative of the overwhelming support being given by the Medical Community as well as the community at large. If desired donations may be made to the Matthew Cohen memorial fund at the Jewish Foundation of Manitoba. God grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change; courage to change the things I can; and the wisdom to know the difference.
