JACK SHERMAN November 1, 1917 February 4, 2007 Passed away peacefully in St. Boniface Hospital surrounded by family. Beloved husband of the late Patty Sherman, and wonderful step-father, grandfather, brother, uncle and brother-in-law. He was the son of Samuel and Mindel Sherman who immigrated to Canada in 1903, and the family eventually settled on Elm Street in downtown Toronto where they lived until 1946. He was predeceased by his older brothers Louis, Albert and Isaac, and is survived by his younger brother Harry (Hush). Jack volunteered to serve in the Royal Canadian Air Force during the Second World War. He was an airman, chiefly responsible for installing and repairing radar equipment on British aircraft. He served in Scotland, England and France. Upon his return to Canada, he was an active ham radio operator, recognized by the Canadian Government with numerous awards for contributing aid to victims of disasters. Jack was one of the founders and senior executives of Pennington's Stores. He moved to Winnipeg in 1959 to manage the organizations' operations in Western Canada. The family continues to be particularly appreciative of the ongoing support and kindness Jack received from his dear brother-in-law Dr. Jack Pierce. Funeral services were held in Winnipeg on February 6, 2007 at Shaarey Zedek Synagogue, and a shiva followed. In lieu of flowers please send donations to: The Patty Jack Sherman Memorial Fund at The Jewish Foundation of Manitoba, 204 477-7520, 123 Doncaster St., Winnipeg, R3N 2B2.
