STUART KING Surrounded by family and caring nurses, Stuart King passed away peacefully on February 6, 2007 at Pinecrest home. Predeceased by his loving wife Ruth in 2004; by his beloved son Stuart Jr. in 1967; his sister Catherine in childhood; a sister Lillian and her husband Ralph Fraser; brother Kenneth and his wife Dorothy King; brother-in-law Allan Chalmers; sister-in-law Gerry King; Kathleen (Kally) and her husband Dr. Frank Kennedy; his niece Karen Shaw and his nephews Harold and Alan King. To celebrate his life he leaves his daughter Diane (Gary) Wallin of Winnipeg; his grandchildren, Grant (Shannon) Wallin of Winnipeg; Janis (Wade) Robertson of Kenora; five great-grandchildren, Danielle and Mitchell Wallin of Winnipeg; Stuart, Krista and Gordon Robertson of Kenora to whom he was known as bompa . He is also survived by his sister Edith Chalmers of Kitchener, Ontario and his brother Alan King of Montreal as well as many nieces and nephews and great-nieces and nephews. Stuart was born in Brandon, Manitoba on June 12, 1914 as the fifth child of Clarence and Ina King. At the age of 16 during the summers he worked for the Free Press in Clear Lake. He came to Kenora in 1933 as the Free Press agent. Shortly afterwards, he met the love of his life Ruth Kennedy of Keewatin. They married in 1937 and were blessed with 67 years together. Stu's faith was an integral part of his life that showed in his daily living; he was a member of the Knox United Church. We will miss his wonderful gift for enjoying life; his generous spirit; his love of music and his keen wit that was never unkind. He was prominent in the business community with many ventures. He retired from being owner and publisher of the Kenora Miner News in 1973. He owned CJRL from 1963 to 1966 and started the Dryden radio station. He took great interest in the town, the challenges and the growth of Kenora. He was a humanitarian with a great love for Kenora and its people. He was a member of the Kenora Jaycees; the executive of the Kinsmen Club; the Chamber of Commerce; president of the Kenora Rotary Club in 1968 and became an honorary member; on the Lake of the Woods District Hospital Board; the Kenora Curling Rink and Kenora Golf Club; on the Small Business Advisory Committee for 3 years retiring in 1979. He wrote and published My Kenora Media Days and History and Heritage of Lake of the Woods with proceeds going to the Canadian Cancer Society in memory of his son Stuart Jr. For twenty years Stuart and Ruth enjoyed winters in Ft. Myers, Florida combining new friends and old friends from Kenora; he especially enjoyed picnics at Wiggins Pass. He took great pride in the lives and activities of his family, especially his grandchildren. Stuart recently requested his daughter give a special thank you to the nursing staff at Pinecrest home for their wonderful care and kindness to him. A memorial service will be held at the Knox United Church on Monday, February 12 at 11:00 a.m. Flowers are gratefully declined. If friends so desire donations can be made to the Lake of the Woods District Hospital, the Cancer Society or the Knox United Church.
