ELSIE FAVELLE (nee KOSS) 1913 - 2007 Peacefully on February 7, 2007, Elsie Favelle, aged 93 years, passed away at Riverview Health Centre with all of her children by her side. Elsie was born in Boulton, MB on June 24, 1913. The family moved to Gypsumville, MB in the early 1900s, where she met and married Don on July 17, 1930. Don spent a great deal of time in Deer Lodge Hospital in Winnipeg as a result of injuries he sustained in the First World War. The family moved to Winnipeg in 1947 to be closer to Don who was in the hospital. He died September 18, 1952 leaving Elsie with a family of five children to raise on her own, the youngest being only six months old at that time. During her time in Gypsumville she was active in the Anglican Church and the Red Cross. Much of her work with the Red Cross was during the Second World War where she was involved in sending food, clothing and sundries to many of the local men who were fighting overseas. Mom leaves to cherish her memory her five children: Marie Kasper (Al), Ed (Carmen), Yvonne Bernhardt (Henry), Donna Furst (Gord) and Gord (Sherry). Granny will also be greatly missed by her ten grandchildren, the Rev. Don Bernhardt (Heather), Corrine Bremner (Dave), Robert Favelle, Valerie Favelle, Jim Kasper, Tracy Peacock (Mark), Dr. Ken Kasper, Rhianne Favelle, Jesse Favelle and Chelsea Favelle; as well as her six great-grandchildren, Tyler and Ashlee Peacock, Aubrey and Stephanie Bremner, and Josh and Jennifer Bernhardt. Elsie also leaves over 100 of her other kids to mourn her passing from Gypsumville, Swan River, Bowsman, etc. who stayed with her over the years when they were students at Red River Community College. Mom had many interests and loves. She had a special love of plants and flowers and her home and garden was always full of them, at times taking over parts of her home. It was rumoured she could probably have made rocks grow, she had such a green thumb. Mom's other passion was hockey. She attended Jets games faithfully and was known by the referees, many of the players on the Jets and other teams as Granny with her referee doll. She would always make her thoughts known to the referees with her referee doll when they made a bad call against her Jets (all penalties to the Jets were bad calls from her perspective). She was heartbroken when the Jets left Winnipeg but soon her passion was transferred to the Moose. Elsie also travelled the world from the early 1980s until her health made it too difficult for her. She loved these trips and cruises with her friends and always had gifts to bring back for all her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. We would like to thank the staff and nurses at Riverview Health Centre (especially Linda and Jennifer) who took exceptional care of her (and us) and treated Mom with dignity and respect. Mom/ Elsie/ Granny/ Great-Granny will be missed by all who knew and loved her. Sleep peacefully in heaven and say hi to Dad for us. Funeral service at 1:00 p.m. Monday, February 12 at Bardal Funeral Home, 843 Sherbrook Street. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation in her name to a charity of your choice.
