DOROTHY LOUISE SCHULZ (nee RAE) Dorothy Schulz passed peacefully on February 8, 2007, at Calvary Place Personal Care Home after a fifteen-month battle with cancer. Dorothy is survived by her mother Janet Kent, son Andrew Schulz, brother David Kent and sister-in-law Margo Swiss, brother Bill Rae, sister Joan Smith and brother-in-law Wally Smith, nephews Fred (Nancy and daughters Christine and Jen), Michael (Patsy and daughter Eva) and Steven (Julie) Robertson, niece Brenda Djekic, cousin Laura DeCocq, and many devoted life-long friends such as Marlene Bartlett, Beverley Carrick, Albert Hall, Johann Johnson, and numerous others. Dorothy was born January 21, 1935, to Janet and George Rae. She was tremendously active in various sports and music lessons from an early age. She later attended Normal School, becoming a grade-school, piano and swimming teacher. She married Fred Schulz on August 1, 1959, giving birth to her son Andrew on October 3, 1960. Dorothy continued various teaching and government jobs, and later pursued a B.A. in Sociology at the University of Winnipeg. Beyond all these activities, Dorothy's true calling was being involved in other's people's lives in the most meaningful way possible. Besides being a wonderful friend and mother to her son Andrew, she was a devoted daughter and wife, caring for her mother, husband, siblings, cousins, and friends in their time of illness. Any friend or relative could count on her for real help, practical and spiritual, often travelling to other cities to be with them. Her family and friends want to express their heart-felt gratitude to all the health-care professionals at CancerCare Manitoba, the Health Sciences Centre, and Calvary Place Personal Care Home for making her final year a comfortable and pain-free experience. They gave her time that allowed her to deepen her relationships with everyone around her. A viewing will be held from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. Saturday, February 10, 2007 at NBI Cremation Services, 3030 Notre Dame Avenue (across from Brookside Cemetery). A memorial service will be held Monday, February 12, 2:00 p.m. Neil Bardal Inc., 984 Portage Avenue, Aubrey Street entrance.
