ROBERT CALVIN ALLAN Peacefully, on February 9, 2007 Robert Calvin Allan passed away at Oakview Place in Winnipeg. Born in Glenella to Melvin and Margaret Allan (Nicol) on December 26, 1930, Cal enjoyed many sports, including baseball and hockey as player, coach, manager, umpire, and referee. He retired from MTS in 1989 after 40 years as a line station installer, spending most of this time in Rivers. He married Margaret Mills in 1957, moving to Rivers in 1958, where they raised their two children. He took great pride in serving the community of Rivers and western Manitoba. He spent many years as a volunteer with the Rivers fire department and ambulance, Masonic Lodge, Rolling River School Division, town council, rink board and Manitoba Junior Hockey Association, and CAHA. He enjoyed many years at the cabin at Lake Metigoshe, enjoying visits from family and many friends. Cal always had a story to tell and welcomed new friendships wherever he went. In his retirement, he was able do more travelling, hunting, ice fishing, woodworking and spending time at the lake. Cal was predeceased by his wife Marg in 1995. Left to cherish his memory are: son Lorry (Janet) of Winnipeg; daughter Jody (Neil Doupe) of Crandall; five grandchildren: Ashley, Amber, Amy, Alyssa, and Jacinta; brother Lyle (Beryl) of Winnipeg and sister Sandra (Dr. Lyn Stevenson) of British Columbia. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, February 14 at 12:30 p.m. at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Avenue. Interment to follow at Chapel Lawn Memorial Gardens. A gathering of friends will follow in the Reception Centre. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Cal's name to Oakview Place, 2395 Ness Ave., Winnipeg. The family would like to extend a special thank you to Vivian, Loree, Esther, Valerie, Kally, Shannon and the rest of the staff at Oakview Place for the excellent care he received.
