MARGARET ELIZABETH MATTISON 1918 - 2007 Peacefully, on February 9, 2007 Margaret Mattison passed from this life to the next. She is survived by her son Blair (daughter-in-law Shawna); granddaughter Caroline, as well as her sister Dorothy Hanson; nieces, Linda, Lois, and Marni; nephew Ernie, and their families. Margaret was born on November 9, 1918, near MacGregor Manitoba, to loving parents, Ernest and Margaret Aikens, and grew up and went to school in Winnipeg during the 1920s. Following high school graduation, she went to Business College and worked for a number of years at the Winnipeg Free Press. In 1940, she met her future husband, Bill, and waited for him while he fought for the R.C.A.F. in Europe during the Second World War. They were married in 1945 upon his return, and moved to Toronto to start their life together. Margaret worked as an executive assistant at Avro Aircraft in Toronto during the post war years, until leaving to start a family in 1956. Tragically, her husband Bill was taken from her in 1959. After his passing, Margaret returned to Winnipeg to be close to family and begin a new life. She worked hard to build that life by studying to become a teacher. She had a great love for the profession, and a true talent. She taught high school at West Kildonan Collegiate for over 20 years, and was greatly admired and respected by students and staff alike for her kindness and dedication to the success of all of those whom she taught. After retiring from West Kildonan, she continued to teach at a number of Winnipeg schools, including Garden City Collegiate, Gordon Bell, and Churchill High, before finally settling into a well-earned retirement. She was an avid sportswoman, even into her 70s, enjoying golf, curling, and cross-country skiing. We, her family and friends, are grief stricken by her passing. Our comfort lies in our knowledge that she now stands, embraced by the arms of God. We thank nurses and staff of the Middlechurch Home of Winnipeg for the wonderful care that they gave to Margaret during her final years. Services will be held on Saturday, February 17, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Paul's Anglican Church, 299 Balderstone Road, Middlechurch, Manitoba. In lieu of flowers, friends are invited to make a donation to the Parkinson Society of Canada.
