Date of Passing: Feb 08, 2007
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryMETRO (MATT) MCKITTEN With great sadness the family announces the passing of Metro McKitten on February 8, 2007 at Seven Oaks Hospital. Born in Chatfield, Manitoba in 1921, Metro was 86 years old. He was predeceased by his wife May in 1987 and his second wife Olga in 2002; parents, Peter and Mary; brothers, Bill (in infancy), John, Nick, Mike and Steve; sisters, Catherine, Anne, Pauline and Nellie; nephews, Wayne Mykytyn and Alex Kolopenuk. He is survived by brother Alex; sisters, Jean Grynol, Doris and Lena Mykytyn; nephews, Joe (Eileen) and Peter (Nina) Kolopenuk, Ray Grynol (Michelle); nieces, Susan Grynol (Rod) and Priscilla McLeod (Jim); sister-in-law Christina Mykytyn. Metro will also be fondly remembered by his special granddaughter Leah Gowron and her parents Judy and John Gowron. After working for a number of years on the family farm, Metro worked for 35 years as a machinist with C.P. Rail. An avid traveler, he and May and later Olga traveled extensively throughout Canada and the U.S., including Hawaii and Alaska, and to Europe. He often spoke fondly of these trips and his experiences. Metro enjoyed gardening and took special pride in his rose bushes which were always the most prolific in the neighbourhood. He was a skilled craftsman as well; the homemade kitchen knives that he made for all his family members are still prized pieces of cutlery. Until the last few years, he continued to be socially active and spirited through his fondness for bowling, cribbage and shuffleboard. He loved animals, especially his pet dogs which became wonderful companions and sources of pleasure. Metro's great sense of humour, gentle, easy-going manner, and kindness made him likable to everyone he met. Even as his health deteriorated, he treated each day with a cheerful stoicism. The family would like to thank the staff at Seven Oaks Hospital, Misericordia Hospital, Amber Meadow Retirement Home and the Maples Personal Care Home for their care and concern for Metro over the last few years. Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday, February 14 at 10:00 a.m. at Glen Eden Funeral Home, with viewing half hour prior. Arrangements entrusted to: Glen Eden Funeral Home 4477 Main Street 338-7111
