Jack was predeceased by his wife Dorothy in 2001, and his brother Ross in 1986. Jack was born on the family homestead near Shoal Lake, Manitoba. He was the eldest child of Mel and Mae Grieve. He attended country school up to Grade 10, and then stayed with his cousins in Shoal Lake to complete Grade 12. He took over the family farm learning about mechanics, welding, and the farming business. Here he often went hunting and fishing with his brothers and friends. Jack was in the Royal Canadian Air Force and became a pilot with a Sargeant's rank during the Second World War, and in later years loved to share stories of his exploits while in the service of his country. Jack and Dorothy were married in 1952. They farmed at Shoal Lake, and in 1960 he became an Imperial Oil Agent running a business in Minto and then in Minitonas, Manitoba which became their home of 39 years. It was here that he nurtured his special interests of camping and fishing with his family, gardening with Dorothy, woodworking, and volunteering with different organizations. They loved to travel in the truck camper, often taking their grandchildren. Some of their longer trips being Alaska, Wyoming and Northern Saskatchewan and Manitoba. One of their most enjoyable trips was to Mexico to visit with his brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Bob and Josephine. In the fall of 2000, Jack and Dorothy moved to Selkirk to be closer to their family. Here he made new friends in the apartment building where he lived. His goal was to live independently as he aged and he succeeded by walking faithfully every day becoming an inspiration to the walkers in the block. The family wishes to express their gratitude to the Selkirk home care workers, Dr. Demsas, and the nurses on the medicine ward of the Selkirk Hospital.
