Date of Passing: Feb 10, 2007
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemorySOPHIE SHUTURMA On February 10, 2007, Sophie Shuturma passed on at the age of 97. Sophie was predeceased by her husband Onofry in 1986; son Lawrence in 2004, and great-grandson Brian Katchnoski in 1998, as well as her siblings. She is survived by her son Donald (Dorothy); daughter-in-law Helen, and numerous grand and great-grandchildren. Born in the Ukraine, immigrating to Canada, and then marrying Onofry in 1932, she spent most of her years in South Transcona taking care of her family and home while working in the garment industry. She enjoyed gardening and cooking, and seemed to have a never ending supply of perogies, holubtsi and her famous meatballs and gravy. During Onofry's battle with Parkinson's disease she was extremely supportive, taking care of him at home, and when this was no longer possible, visiting him daily in hospital to feed and comfort him. After a hip injury in 1999 left her unable to live safely at home, she moved to Columbus Villa where she truly enjoyed the company of the other residents. She was later diagnosed with Lymphoma. Many thanks to the staff at Concordia Hospital for their care during this time and many thanks to the staff in Oncology who took such great care of her. Thanks to Dr. Darcy Johnson for the many years of care he has provided for our family. God didn't forget you, Baba, He granted you your wish. Funeral service on Thursday, February 15, 2007 at Wheeler Funeral Chapel, 211 Regent Ave. W., Transcona. Viewing at 9:00 a.m. and Service 9:30 a.m.
