Manuel passed away peacefully, with his loving family by his side, at 10:10 p.m. on February 12, 2007 at the Calvary Place Nursing Home. Manuel Gouveia was born on November 18, 1934 and raised in No Councelho Rosario Lagoa, Sao Miguel Acores. He was well known as Manuel Preto . He was a great fisherman and diver. He was passionate about what he did. He enjoyed traditional parties with his family and loved his glass of wine. Manuel gave the gift of life through blood donations. Manuel is survived by his loving wife Ilda; his children, Alberto (Margarida), Gilberta (Carlos), Dalila (Agusto), Maria (Antonio), Teresa (Silvino), Ana Paula (Frank), Escolastica (Joe), Filomena (Lindsay), Eo Seio Tresol, Manny (Vikki), 21 grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, Teresa, Rosarinha, Eduarda, Silvana and O Dilia from Toronto and José and Joana from Portugal. Manuel was predeceased by his father Manual Gouveia; mother Maria do Rosario; daughter Isabelle de Jesus, and two sisters, Maria and Margarida. The Gouveia family would like to convey a special thanks to the staff of Calvary Place and Pastor Manuel Bessa who was present in his last moments. God Bless. Prayers will be held at Cropo Funeral Chapel, 1442 Main Street on Friday, February 16 at 8:00 p.m. with the Funeral Service to follow on Saturday, February 17 at 11:00 a.m. Very Reverend Father José Eduardo Medeiros, V.F. officiating along with Pastor Manuel Bessa. Interment to follow at Assumption Cemetery. A lunch will be served at Casa Do Minho Portuguese Centre at 1080 Wall Street, following interment, for all to come and celebrate the life and rejoice in the memories of Manuel Gouveia.
