SHIRLEY MELSTED (nee MCMANUS) On February 13, 2007, after a lengthy illness, Shirley passed away peacefully with her daughters at her side. Left to mourn her passing are her two daughters, Kim Elke (Murray), and Kathy Marks (Dick Arnason). Also left to cherish her memory are her grandchildren, Krista Gudmundson (Derek Johnson), Joanna Baron, Erik and Alana Grimolfson; her mother Beth Livingston; sister Pat Cross (Wally), and mother-in-law Marjorie Marks. She was predeceased by her husband Axel Melsted; father Elwyn McManus; stepfather Albert Livingston, and father-in-law Edward Marks. Shirley was born in Winnipeg on August 10, 1934. She was raised at Union Pointe on a farm by the Red River. She moved to Arnes in 1953 where she raised her family and provided a warm and loving home. In 1976 she moved to Winnipeg where she pursued her career in childcare. In 1980 she married Axel Melsted and they resided in Winnipeg until their passing. The family would like to thank Dr. Duprat, Dr. Harris and all the staff at the Oncology Clinic at the Concordia Hospital for their compassionate care over the years. Special thanks to the staff at the Grace Hospice for making Mom's last days a warm, comfortable place for her and her family. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Shirley's name to the Grace Palliative Care Hospice, 260 Booth, Winnipeg, MB R3J 3M7.
