BARNEY B. YANICKI It is with deep regret that we announce the death of Barney B. Yanicki, of Winnipeg on Wednesday, February 14, 2007 at the Victoria General Hospital at the age of 83 years. Remaining to forever cherish Barney's memory are his two sons, Ken (Serena), and Barney Jr. (Denise); Daughter Jo-Ann; grandchildren, Harley, Kaeden and Kierra; sisters, Stella and Verna; as well as numerous relatives and friends. Barney was predeceased by his Mother Mary, Father George; and his brothers Henry and Adolf. Born in Poland on November 15, 1923 he came to Canada on May 4, 1929 and settled with his family in Poplarfield, Manitoba. Barney was in the military and discharged due to injury on June 14, 1946. He travelled extensively across Canada working in the mines in Ontario and in the logging industry. After settling in Winnipeg, Barney worked for many years as a contractor. He enjoyed his career with the City of Winnipeg Waterworks doing construction for 24 years, finally retiring in 1992. Barney was a lover of nature, and had a soft spot for animals, especially cats. Barney's funeral service will be held on Monday, February 19 at 10:30 a.m. in the Silver Heights United Church, 199 Garrioch Avenue (the corner of Mount Royal and Ness Avenue). Interment will follow in Brookside Cemetery, 3001 Notre Dame Avenue. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Barney's memory to the Winnipeg Humane Society, 5 Kent Street, Manitoba R2L 1X3.
